Solomon D Coats was born April 1838 in Ohio the son of Ransom Coats and Elizabeth Gunsaulis Coats. He married Ida A Saunders? approximately 1867. They had three children, Sidney D Coats b. 1867 d. 1868, Charles E Coats b. 1869, and Laura Belle Coats b. 1873. He was widowed shortly after Laura was born. He married Josphine Almira Norton 23 May 1877 in Council Bluffs, Pottawattamie, Iowa. They had two children, Clinton Howard Coats b. 12 Dec 1877, and Emily (Emma) D. Coats b. 18 May 1884. Following Josphine's death Solomon married Mamie E. Gentry 16 July 1907 in Spokane, Washington. He died in the Spokane County Infirmary, Spangle, Washington 20 May 1917.
