Jacob was a Private in the Revolutionary War. April 21, 1781, he and his brother John joined Kentucky's Lincoln County Militia to fight the Indians. Both brothers served in Brigadier General George Rogers Clark's, expeditions against the Shawnee Nation. They were in Captain John Martin's Company of Militia ordered from Lincoln County under the Command of Colonel Stephen Trigg, They were discharged May 27 1781, having served 37 days.
