Henry Bushong fought in the War of 1812 as a Private in Glover's Mounted Volunteer Militia.
Know all men by these presents, That We, Henry Bushong and John Summers are held and firmly bound unto his Excellency Beverley Randolph Esq., Governor of Virginia, in the Penal Sum of Fifty Pounds Current money, to said Governor and his Successors, the payment whereof well and truly to be made, We bind ourselves, our Heirs and Executors and Administrators Jointly and Severally firmly by these presents. Sealed with our Seals and Dated this 5th day of July 1791.
The Condition of the above obligation is such that whereas there is a marriage Shortly intended to be Solemnized between the above bound Henry Bushong and Isbel Summers for which a license has issued now if there be no lawful cause to obstruct the said marriage then this obligation to be void or else to remain in full force and virtue.

BUSHONG: This community is now known as Mount Gilead. It is located at the forks of East Fork Creek, about 3 1/2 miles north of Tompkinsville. Began circa 1798, land granted to John SUMMERS by Governor SHELBY. John SUMMERS' daughter, Isabelle, married Henry BUSHONG who also had a land grant here.
Another early settler was Solomon DICKERSON, 1804. John HARRIS came 1807. The Mount Gilead Church of Christ organized in 1857. Charter members included BROWN, LYON, HIGH, *BUSHONG, BRAY, PROFFITT, *HARVEY, PITCOCK, HARRIS, CUNNINGHAM, EMBERTON, PAYNE, ROBERTSON & McMURTREY. Several schools have been located here. Sarah DICKERSON donated land 1879 for school. Jacob BUSHONG had a grist mill here.
