She is survived by her beloved son, Hal Swindell McGee, foster sister, Hazel Lane, granddaughter, Karen and husband Rob Davis, great grandchildren Katelyn and Kyle, devoted nieces and nephews and their spouses, children and grandchildren.
In 1942 she married Henry J. McGee (Hal) and became a US Army Officer's wife for the next 30 years. This life led them to travel and throughout the country. Their last station was Fort Richardson, Ak. where they witnessed Alaska becoming a state.
Mary Louise was educated at Swan Quarter High School and Woman's College (UNCG). She pursued educational opportunities by enrolling in studies at the University of Hawaii, traveling with the Elderhostel program, and participating in Literary studies of Europe. She retired after 10 years as a secretary from Mattamuskeet School.
She was a loyal member of Soule United Methodist Church where she served as Sunday School Superintendent, Sunday School teacher, treasurer, and also a member of the Charge Trustees. Mary Louise was also active in Ladies Aide, a past president of United Methodist Women, Past Worthy Grand Matron of the Eastern Star (Hyde Chapter #213), National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, and the NC Retired School Personnel.
A memorial service was held in the Brown Auditorium at Cypress Glen, Greenville on Thursday, September 10. A graveside service was held at Soule United Methodist Church in Hyde County on Friday, September 11 at Soule Cemetery...
