D. C. Pierce Dead
David C. Pierce, familiarly known as Crockett Pierce, died at his home on Monroe street, on Monday morning, after a long decline from Bright’s disease. The funeral was held at the residence on Wednesday at 10 o’clock a.m., conducted by Elder T. M. Wiles, of the Christian church. The remains were interred in the Hopewell cemetery.
David Pierce was of Virginia stock, but was born in Pleasant township, this county. His parents were early settlers of that township. He was born in July 1834 and was a farmer until 1875 when he came to this city. He was engaged in the saloon business. He was twice married. His first wife was Sarah E. Davis, who died in 1859, leaving two daughters who married Martin Sandefur and Fred Axt, now deceased. His second wife, who survives, was Mary C. Brackett. Two sons survive from this union.
Mr. Pierce was of quiet disposition and was a kind husband father.

The funeral services were held at the house, Wednesday morning at 10 o’clock, and conducted by Rev. T. M. Wiles. Mr. Pierce was born in Pleasant township, this county, where he resided on a farm until 1875, when he removed to this city, and has since been engaged in the saloon business.
