ATLANTA, GEORGIA. . .Janelle Battles Bethune, a resident of Atlanta, died Sunday evening, November 7, 2021, in the Sunrise Assisted Living, in Atlanta. She was 87.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, November 10, 2021, in the Holman-Abbeville Mortuary Chapel, Abbeville, Alabama, with Pastor Randy Greene officiating. Burial will follow in the Abbeville Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 1:00 P.M. Wednesday at the mortuary in Abbeville
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Resource Center, P.O. Box P.O. Box 1170, Dothan, AL 36302.
Mrs. Bethune was born in Altoona in Etowah County, Alabama, daughter of the late Floyd Battles and Daisy Smith Battles. She formerly lived in Eutaw, Alabama and Tuscaloosa, Alabama before moving to Atlanta in 2016. Mrs. Bethune was retired from the State of Alabama Health Department in Eutaw. In earlier years, she was employed by the Exchange Bank in Altoona, Alabama. Mrs. Bethune was a member of the Samuels Chapel United Methodist Church in Altoona, Alabama. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hugo Black Bethune, and a sister, Henrietta Battles Scoggins.
Surviving relatives include her son, William Clay Bethune, Atlanta; two nephews, Edward Harold Scoggins, Jr. and Matthew Trent Scoggins.
