Son of Samuel and Sarah "Sally" Leigh. He was named with his mother in his brother Nathaniel K's 1845 estate papers in Kings County. The Newburyport city records show his date of birth as Dec 1803 but the specific day is not recorded.

Stephen appears to have been married at least twice and spent his adult life in Albany working as a morocco dresser - a specialized process for the tanning of goat (kid) leather.

Married first to Eveline Simmons (b. abt 1811, New York d. 1843 Albany)
Children: William H. (1832-1909)

There is an Elizabeth Swasey b 1812 NY on the 1850 census so it's possible this is a 2nd wife, but we can't be sure as the 1850 does not provide relationships. Nor do we find any marriage/divorce/death records for her. If she was a wife and died we'd expect her to be here but she isn't. It is probable that the two children (Cornelia & George) on this census are hers and not Stephen's as they are not counted on the 1840 census.

By 1852 he's married to Jane Anne Morrison (abt 1835-1911). She is buried here with him.
Children: Charles (1852-1908) and Henry (1859-1943)

Any help on what happened to Cornelia and George is appreciated. Thank you.
