MURPHYSBORO - Aaron Lloyd Blessing, 89, died at 2:24 a.m. Saturday, October 5, 2013, at home.

He was born February 10, 1924, to Lloyd Charles and Edith Mae (Dean) Blessing in Makanda.

He married Mary Alice Lewis on August 8, 1943.

During his lifetime, Aaron was a farmer and truck driver. He worked for Dillinger Feed Store and Elevator, along with New Era Dairy, and he also worked almost 20 years at Lumber City.

He was a member of Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church, where he served as a song leader. He also was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Carbondale.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Marjorie Alice Blessing of Murphysboro and Jill Ann Blessing of Carbondale; two sons, James Aaron (Janice) Blessing of Murphysboro and Arvin LeRoy (Raetta) Blessing of Murphysboro; seven grandchildren, Rachael Wenzel of Sadorus, Shawn Blessing of Huntsville, Ala., Deanna Rene (Allen) Crombar of Murphysboro, Erin Marie (Jamie) Day of Bowen, Alan Leon (Shannon) Blessing of Murphysboro, Adam Aaron Stearns of Killeen, Texas, and Amber Ann Stearns of Carbondale; 17 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren and one on the way; sister, Esther Mae Reid of Bradenton, Florida; nieces and nephews; and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Mary Virginia Boros; and great-great-grandson, Hunter Haney.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Crain Pleasant Grove-Murdale Funeral Home with the Rev. Cliff Waller officiating.

Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery in Carbondale.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Grace United Methodist Building Fund and will be accepted at the funeral home.
