MERIDEN — John Hoydilla, 71, of 23 Brooklawn Drive, beloved husband of 47 years to Marilyn (Thompson) Hoydilla, died on Thursday, Oct. 22, 1998, at Hospital of St. Raphael in New Haven after a two-year courageous battle with an illness.
Born in Bridgeport on July 26, 1927, he was the son of the late Michael and Bertha (Vargo) Hoydilla. He was a lifelong resident of Meriden and had been employed by Pratt & Whitney Machine Tool Co. in West Hartford as a heavy duty machine builder for 25 years and was a past president of Hoydilla's Garage in Middlefield and Higganum for some 23 years. Mr. Hoydilla was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Air Force under Gen. Tunner in Air-Sea Rescue.
Besides his wife, Marilyn, he is survived by a daughter, Linda Lee Hoydilla of Meriden; two sons and daughters-in-law, Peter John and Marie Hoydilla, Mark John and Dawn Hoydilla, all of Meriden; a sister, Vera Garstka of Rochester, N.H.; and a brother, William Hoydilla of Florida; and by several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three brothers, Stephen, Frank and Michael Jr., and three sisters, Ann, Mary and Sue.
