(Served as STAFFORD). Son of Margaret Stafford (formerly Ackers, nee Scott), of 15, Elm Grove, Liverpool, and the late Jonathan Ackers.

John served as a Fireman in the Mercantile Marine. He was on board the S.S. "Dwinsk" (London) formerly a passenger ship of the Russian East Asiatic Steamship Co, that was torpedoed and sunk by U-151, 400 miles NE of Bermuda.

On June 18th, 1918, Dwinsk, on a voyage from Brest to New York, was torpedoed and sunk by gunfire by the German submarine U-151 (Heinrich von Nostitz und Jänckendorff), 400 miles NExN3/4N Bermuda. 23 persons were lost."
