Paul H. Abel, 85, one of five remaining members of Frank Gauger Camp 37 of Wau the United Spanish War Veterans, died of a heart attack in his Town of Emmet home Wednesday at 5:30 a.m. Mr. Abel was a private and muleskinner in Wausan Company G, Third Infantry, in the Spanish-American War. He was born in Augusta, Ky., Jan. 15, 1877, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Abel. He married Martha Baur in Wausau Jan. 23, 1905. They lived in Mosinee until 1911, when they went to Montana, returning to Marathon County and to the Emmet farm in 1914. Surviving besides the widow are two sons, Roman and Francis, Haider; three daughters, Mrs. Clarence Saindon, Haider, Mrs. Armin Buchberger, Tacoma, Wash., and Mrs. Guy Vaugher, San Jose, Calif.; a sister, Mrs. Frank Walters, Rothschild; 10 grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. in St. Patrick's Catholic Church at Haider. The Rev. Nicholas Beschta will officiate and burial will be in the parish cemetery. The body will be in the Beste Funeral Home at Mosinee tonight and the rosary will be said there Friday at 8:45 p.m.
