Felix Roberson Abel age 96 of Dayton died early Monday morning September 7, 2015 at Rhea Medical Center. Felix was born in Dayton on July 30, 1919 the son of the late James Moss Abel and Gladys (Lowry) Abel. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Clifton Abel and sister, Helen Laher.
Felix was a graduate of Rhea Central High School, class of 1937. He earned his B.S. degree at TTU and completed one year at UTK in business. Staff Sgt. Felix Abel served his country in the United States Army Air Corp as a ground mechanic in England on B-17's and B-29's during WWII.
He retired from Robinson Mfg after 37 years in production management. He also was co-owner of Abel Hardware in Dayton which closed in 1997. He was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church where he had served as a Deacon and financial officer.
Felix is survived by his brother Elbert Abel of Dayton, his nephew Chad (Ashley) Abel of Franklin and his niece Tonya (Scott) Olson of Littleton, CO along with several other nephews, nieces and cousins.
The family would like to especially thank David Zopfi and his staff at The Courtyard for their wonderful care of Felix.
Funeral services with military honors will be held Tuesday evening at 7 pm in the funeral home chapel with his pastor, Rev. Milton Knox officiating. He will be laid to rest Wednesday at 12 noon in the Abel Cemetery.
