Funeral services for Ressie Iora (Webb) Porterfield, 93, of Lamesa will be held Wednesday September 9, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at Second Baptist Church with Reverend Syl Moore officiating. Reverend Pat Githens will present the obituary. Burial will follow at Lamesa Memorial Park under the direction of Branon Funeral Home. Visitation will also be held at the Branon Funeral Home Tuesday, September 8, 2015 from 6:00-8:00 p.m.

Ressie passed on Sunday morning at 2:00 a.m. at Levelland Hospital. She was born in Texline, Texas on November 7, 1921 to Sidney and Florine Webb. She was married to A. H. Porterfield "Chink" for 67 years.

Ressie was very active at second Baptist Church where she served on the Building Committee, was Sunday School Director for eight years, and was on many other church committees. Ressie also sang in the choir and played in the Agape Handbell Choir.

Ressie is survived by her children, Jeannie Colls of San Diego, Flora and husband Bill Bagby of Houston, and M. Don and Kristy Porterfield of Levelland; nine grandchildren J. Don and Kaci Porterfield of Lamesa, Kim and Jake Sanchez of Ruidosa NM, Kathy Reed of Hempstead, Lee Ann and Scott Shandle of San Diego, CA, Kody and Cheyenne Porterfield of Jacksboro, and Karleigh Porterfield of Lubbock. She is also survived by 15 great grandchildren

Ressie was preceded in death by her husband A.H. (Chink) Porterfield; and her oldest daughter, Barbara A. Vorhees of Odessa who passed in December 2013; parents Sidney and Florine Webb of Ranger, TX and her siblings Della Hagar of Eastland, Ernest of Amarillo and Presley Webb of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Her son-in-law Thomas E. Vorhees of Odessa and grandson Danny Reed and granddaughter Krista Reed, both of Houston, also preceded her.

Ressie was well known as a nurse in Lamesa. She worked for Dr. Black for 22 years and for Dr. Chow for 8 years. She also worked for Dr. McKay and Dr. Kahn for 5 years each. Ressie enjoyed her patients and loved nursing.

Ressie was always happy. She enjoyed bridge and other table games with family and friends. In her spare time she liked to go fishing. No matter her age, Ressie had a nice vegetable garden and beautiful flowers in her yard.
