George Dusenbury Rose, the son of Albert A. Rose and Catherine H. Dusenbury, married Nellie Elbertie Minor on October 31, 1888 and had five children; Albert, who died as an infant, U.S. Army Lieut. Owen Minor, George Dwight, Helen M. and Mary Joy. Initially he resided with his family in Kimball, SD, later moving to Vermillion, to a house across the street from the University of South Dakota, where he ran a lumber yard. He caught the flu and took time off work to heal, not wanting to leave his job untended he returned to work too early, he suffered a relapse and died. This same flu took the life of his son Owen. Nellie, Albert and Owen are buried along with George in the family plot in Kimball Cemetery, Kimball, South Dakota. George Dwight and Mary Joy were interred at Oak Hill Cemetery in San Jose, California.
