In Memory of...

Charles David Black, age 86, passed away on Thursday, August 13, 2015.

Mr. Black was born on September 2, 1928 in Cartersville, son of the late Criss Wesley Black and Camila McIntyre Black.

Mr. Black was a loving father and “Paw Paw”, a devoted servant of the Lord and a member of the Church of God. He loved to work with his hands around his house, splitting firewood, tending to his flower gardens and tinkering as a mechanic on his vehicles. When he wasn’t working around his house, he could be found fishing and noodling at any local pond or river. His greatest joy was spending time with his children and grandchildren. He will be remembered most for his quick wit and his laughter. He is greatly missed but will never be forgotten.

He is preceded in death by his loving wife of thirty-one years, Geneva Black; first wife, Edna Russell Britt; daughters, Elaine Black Hammonds and Myra Cooper; brother, Jimmy Kay Black; sisters, Bobbie Black Hollingshed and Johnnie Black Hollingshed.

Survivors include his sons, Roger Black ( Kathy) of Cartersville, Russell Black (Kim) of Montgomery, AL and Rodney Black (Tamara) of WV; son-in-law, Emory Cooper; daughters, Earline McDowell (Doug) of Atlanta, Helen Miller (Cliff) of Acworth, Shearie Smith (Bill) of Cartersville and Margaret Watkins (Steve) of Sugar Valley; brothers, Wayne Black (Barbara) of Cartersville and Kent Black (Linda) of Cartersville; sisters, Grace Epps (Marvin) of Cartersville and Muriel Hollingshed (Alvin) of Dallas; a multitude of cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at two o’clock in the afternoon on Sunday, August 16, 2015 in the Chapel of Owen Funeral Home with Rev. Ralph Jenkins and Rev. Doug Harris officiating. Interment will immediately follow in Sunset Memory Gardens.

Serving as pallbearers are Wayne, Josh and Brian Smith, Jerry Prewett, Alan and Kevin Black.
