She was born Willadean Deaton on July 6, 1925, in Hopkins County to Lawrence Edward Deaton and Maggie Belle Gibson Deaton. She was saved at the age of 11. She was married to Buck Gafford, Jr. for 51 years before he preceded her in death.
Dean was a secretary who worked for the Birdville School District and later retired from North Texas Bank. She met her husband Buck when they were sophomores in high school and then waited just a year after graduation before getting married. She loved to say that she married her high school sweetheart.
Dean was a member of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include her son, Joe Gafford and his fiance, Kim; a daughter; five grandchildren, Jana Hudson, Terry Gafford, Shelley Patterson, Brian Jernigan and Kevin Ballard; six great-grandchildren; and a brother, Don Deaton.
