John was born say 1550. He married Alice Walsbeer on 21 Jan. 1577 at St. Mary Church, Pitminster, Somersetshire, England. He died sometime after 1607 (i.e., he survived his wife). Presumably his death occurred in Pitminster and he was buried there with his wife and daughters. However, no details of his death and burial are known at this time.

Note: His wife's burial date (15 Oct. 1607) is mistakenly assigned to him as a death date in online family trees.

Also, he has been reported as the son of Richard Cox, Dean of Westminster and Bishop of Ely. However, no documented reference to such a connection has been seen and it seems highly unlikely.
