Alden "Bud" Anderson Oakes
St. George
Alden "Bud" Andersen Oakes of St. George, Utah recently passed away at the age of 92.
Bud was born September 17, 1922 in San Diego, California to Harry and Lottie Andersen Oakes.
He was the youngest child with siblings Elaine, Terry, Keith and Laurel.
At the age of 9 his family moved to Hyrum, Utah.
Bud met this wife Melba Olsen at South Cache High School and they were married October 2, 1942 in the Logan Utah Temple.
During World War II Bud served 3-1/2 years in the Navy as a Chief Petty Officer in the Pacific theater.
After the war Bud and Melba served a 2 year mission in Toronto, Canada then settled in Riverside, California where Bud worked for more than 40 years with his brother Terry (and later his nephew Terry) in the family auto parts business.
After retirement Bud and Melba served their second mission, this time in the California San Jose Mission in the Filipino Branch.
Upon returning from their mission they moved to St. George, Utah.
Bud worked for almost 15 years as a driver for St. George Ford where he enjoyed delivering cars all over the western United States.
Bud gave many years of service to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in several callings such as Ward Young Mens President, twice as Bishop and more than 20 years on the High Council.
He was a Ordinance worker in the St. George Temple for 9 years.
He was thrilled to marry and seal several of his grandchildren.
In addition he enthusiastically and faithfully participated in the Church's extraction and indexing program.
Bud was preceded in death by his son Lee. He is survived by his wife Melba,
and children Susan, Ivins, Utah;
Becky (Boyce),
Joseph City,
AZ; Alan (Karen), American Fork, Utah;
Linda, Newton, MA;
17 grandchildren
and 15 great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday, September 3, 2015 at 11:00 am at the Morningside Stake Center (879 South River Road, St. George ).
Viewings will be held Wednesday September 2, 2015 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 pm at the Stake Center and prior to services from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
Interment will be in the Tonaquint Cemetery (1777 S. Dixie Dr., St. George, Utah).
