EDNA A. (MARTIN) BODWAY
Edna A. (Martin) Bodway, a longtime resident of Niagara Falls, died Thursday, August 28, 2014 in Buffalo General Hospital. She was 86.
She was born in Massena, NY on January 19, 1928, the daughter of the late Edward and Alice (Foley) Martin.
She attended schools in Massena and was a graduate of Massena Central High School.. As a young woman, she began her long career with the telephone company. She worked for various companies because of the continual company name changes and ownership. When she retired, she was with Verizon.
She was a longtime member of St. Vincent de Paul Parish (Prince of Peace location); the Elks Lodge 346; the Telephone Pioneers which did voluntary work for area nursing homes, children's hospital and various festivals. Her role with them was playing a clown, which she loved. Mrs. Bodway also enjoyed baking cakes, needlepoint, knitting, reading and collecting frogs.
She is survived by two children, Martin "Butch" Bodway of Niagara Falls and Ann Durnez (Maurice) of London, Ontario; two grandchildren, Cheryl Onufer (Dennis) of Watford, ONT and Adam Durnez (Sandra) of Wingham, ONT; four great-grandchildren, Owen and Mona Durnez; Dana and Jayden Onufer; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by husband, Henry Bodway; siblings, Jerry Martin, Charles Martin, Ruby Holland and Patricia Yandoh and longtime friend, Jean Martin.
The family will be present Monday from 4-8 PM in the LANE FUNERAL HOME, INC., 8622 Buffalo Avenue. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday 10 AM in St. Vincent de Paul Parish at Prince of Peace. PLEASE ASSEMBLE AT CHURCH.
The interment will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Town of Lewiston.
