Avis Stroup (March 29, 1919-Aug. 9, 1996), a homemaker and self-employed day care provider, died Friday at Delta Memorial Hospital in Antioch. She was 77. The native of Neosho, Mo., lived in San Pablo for five years before moving to Pittsburg in 1956. She attended schools in Missouri and was a cook at resorts in Rockaway Beach and Branson. She moved to California with her family in 1951. She is survived by her daughter Ruth A. Stroup of Pittsburg; sons, William and Ronald Stroup , both of Antioch; brother, Garland Alms of Walnut Shade, Mo.; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Her husband, Floyd Lee Stroup, died in 1976. Services: 11 a.m. Thursday at Pittsburg Funeral Chapel, with burial at Oak View Memorial Park, Antioch. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel. Contra Costa Times (Walnut Creek, CA)-Tuesday, August 13, 1996.
