Funeral services for Mrs. Delva V. Quail, age 83, of Brookings, formerly of Brandt, SD will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 17, 2006 in the Leganger Lutheran Church in Toronto, SD. Rev. Herb Wounded Head III will officiate. Delva passed away on Wednesday, June 14, 2006 in the United Retirement Center in Brookings, SD. She was the widow of Mr. Orville Quail. Burial will be in the Toronto Cemetery, Toronto, SD. Honorary pallbearers will be her granddaughters and active pallbearers will be her grandsons.

Delva was born on August 4, 1922 to Frank and Vera (Kislingbury) Olson in Greenville, Iowa. As a child her family moved to Sioux Falls, SD and then to Toronto, SD just before Delva entered 1st grade.

She attended the Toronto Schools where she graduated in 1940. She continued her education at USD in Vermillion for one year. She then began training at the Lutheran Deaconess Hospital where she received her R.N. degree in 1944. Delva then worked there for 2 ½ years as an R.N. and then worked for one year at the Veteran's Hospital in St. Paul, MN.

On September 20, 1945, she was united in marriage to Orville Quail at her parents' home in Toronto, SD. Following their marriage, they lived in Toronto, SD.

Delva worked at the Brookings Hospital until 1948. In 1949, the couple then began to farm northeast of Toronto and then in 1950 moved to a farm 2 west and 6 miles north of Toronto. In 1964, Delva began working for the Deuel County Good Samaritan Home in Clear Lake, SD where she worked for 9 years.

On December 3, 1995 Orville passed away. Delva then moved to Brookings, SD.

On May 31, 2006 she entered the United Retirement Center in Brookings where she passed away on June 14, 2006 at the age of 83 years, 10 months and 10 days.

She was a member of Leganger Lutheran Church in Toronto where she was active in the church circle. Delva was also a member of the Toronto American Legion Auxiliary.

She enjoyed crossword puzzles, reading and fishing. Delva especially loved her family and visiting.

She is lovingly remembered by her four children: Ordell (Shirley) Quail, Clear Lake, SD, Gary (Jan) Quail, Toronto, SD, Arla (Chuck) Olson, Clear Lake, SD and Eric (Tammy) Quail, Brandt, SD; 12 grandchildren: Lori Miller, Tony (Jennifer) Quail, Stacy (Chris) Ellingson, Brian Quail, Cory Quail, Ross Quail, Aaron Olson, Jared Olson, Nick Olson, Spencer Olson, Josilyn (Brian) Ulvestad and Jordan Quail; 12 great-grandchildren: Alexis, Georgialee and Owen Quail, Hannah, Beatrice and Isabelle Ellingson, and Ethan and Isaac Olson; one sister-in-law, Carol Quail, Faribault, MN; one brother-in-law, Robert (Mavis) Quail, Toronto, SD and nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband Orville; one daughter Susan Kappel, one grandson Troy Quail and one brother Arlo Olson.
