Herbert Gilkey
Herbert Gilkey, 67, of 336 Broadway, Middleport, died Sunday morning at home.
Born Oct. 31, 1917 on Gilkey Ridge in Meigs County, he was a son of Emmett and Alta Wilson Gilkey.
A retired Middleport Chief of Police, he was a charter member of the Fraternal Order of Police, a past member of the Middleport Fire Department, and a member of the Middleport First Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Ann (Betty) Gilkey, at home; three daughters, Shirley Kishbaugh, Columbus, Mildred Nash and Anna Mae Ellis, both of Middleport; a stepson and his wife, Jeff and Kitty Darst, Middleport; eight grandchildren; four brothers, Leonard, Roscoe and Jack Gilkey, all of Athens, and Wallace Gilkey, Wilkesville; three sisters, Kathleen Ellis, Glouster, Blanche Dille and Babe Fell, both of Logan; several nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
He was preceded in death by a brother Wayne, and infant brother Ralph and two sisters, Mabel Hogue and Alpha Jeffers.
Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Rawlings-Coats-Blower Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Miller officiating. Burial will be in Burlingham Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home all day Tuesday with the family present from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m.
A memorial service by the Middleport Fire Department will be conducted 7 p.m. Tuesday followed by a Fraternal Order of Police memorial service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Middleport Fire Department.
