ALBANY — Leonard Gilkey, 84, Albany, went to be with the Lord, Wednesday, June 12, 2013, at The Pickering House in Lancaster, Ohio.

Born April 5, 1929, in Meigs County, he was the son of the late Emmett and Alta L. Wilson Gilkey. He was retired from Columbia Gas Transmission Corporation and a member of West State Church of Christ in Pomeroy, Ohio. Leonard was an avid gardener and hobby farmer. His passions over the years were coon hunting and working in the outdoors.

He is survived by children Judith (Richard) Dow of Westerville, Ohio, James (Shirley) of Albany, and Shane (Malissa) of Athens; four grandchildren, Natalie (Joseph) Mack of Marietta, Wesley, Benjamin, and Elijah Gilkey of Athens; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 64 years Edith Burcher Gilkey; brothers Wayne, Herbert, Charles, Ralph, Wallace, and Ray Gilkey; sisters Mabel Hogue, Alpha Mae Jeffers, Kathleen Ellis, Bessie Fell, and Blanche Dille.

Services will be Friday at 2 p.m., June 14 at Bigony-Jordan Funeral Home, with brother Paul J. Casebolt officiating. Visitation will be Friday, 12 p.m. to time of service at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Alexander Cemetery.
