The death of Major Legate is the removal of another ancient landmark of the Wisconsin lead mines. He came with his family to Mineral Point a quarter of a century ago, we believe as a government surveyor; being a man of some ability he took prominent part, at times to public affairs, and became extensively known among earlier settlers of the State. For several years past he has been employed by the state, at Madison, as Mapping Clerk in the Secretary's office and returned to his home last Thursday-in time to finish his earthly career among his friend and relatives.
Funeral to take place tomorrow (Friday) at 10 o'clock.
