Born in Cazenovia, New York, the fifth born son to Jan Henrick Forsting and Johanna VanKleeve. Civil War veteran. Second Lieutenant, 3rd Regiment, New York, light artillery Company K, Ensign, Union.
Moved to Alameda, California and became one of the cities biggest capitalists, making a fortune in real estate. Husband to Perlie L. Marshall, father to Fredwin Forsting. Grandfather to Frances Forsting Tucker Parry, whom he and his wife raised.
