Mrs. Julia Merritt, an old time resident of Yale, died on Wednesday, Feb. 7th, 1917, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. C. L. Glady, of Three Rivers, Mich., after a short illness. The remains were brought to Yale and funeral services were held from the M. E. church on Saturday afternoon last, Rev. Cook, of Port Huron, officiating, and interment was made in Elmwood cemetery.
Julia A. Bean was born in Port Huron and would have been 77 years of age, had she lived till July next. Was twice married, the first time to Jos. Lucia, who died in the early '70s. One son, Norman, was born to this union. His home is in Port Huron. In 1877 she married Henry H. Merritt, and in 1882 the family came to Yale where Mr. Merritt engaged in the butcher business he followed until the year 1889 when they moved into a farm 1 1/2 miles north of Yale where he died in 1890. But one child was born to this union, Seneth, (Mrs. C. L. Glady), of Three Rivers, at whose home the mother passed away.
Besides the son and daughter, Mrs. Merritt leaves the following step children: John and Mrs. Newton, of Three Rivers, and Mrs. Geo. McOmber, of Yale.
Deceased will be well remembered by the older residents of Yale, among whom she was held in the highest esteem. The Expositor joins with them in extending sympathy to the family in their bereavement.
