Bettalee Reed Louk, the daughter of John and Bessie (Brewer) Buckmaster, was born on November 12, 1921, at Ramsey, Illinois.

She departed this life on August 5, 2015 at the Greene County Long Term Care Facility in Jefferson, Iowa. She lived her life to the age of 93 years, 8 months and 23 days.

Betty graduated in 1938 from Churdan High School and later attended the Fort Dodge Beauty Academy.

She worked as a waitress and a grocery store clerk, but was a hairdresser for most of her life. She retired in 1995.

On June 16, 1943, Betty Buckmaster was united in marriage to Wayne Reed at the Churdan United Methodist Church. Five boys were born to this union.

They made their home in Churdan and Betty raised her family, did hairdressing and was active in the church.

Wayne passed away in February of 1979.

On January 1, 1980, Betty was married to Edgar Louk at the Churdan United Methodist Church.

They lived in Churdan, and Ed passed away in August of 1990.

Betty continued to make her home in Churdan until November of 2007 when she became a resident at the Greene County Long Term Care Facility.

Betty was a longtime member of the Churdan United Methodist Church and U.M.W., taught Sunday and Bible School and was on the funeral dinner committee for many years.

She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Hospice and Auxiliary of Stewart Memorial Hospital and the Rebekah Lodge.

She enjoyed her family, visiting with others; especially the elderly and home bound. She also enjoyed helping people, doing hair for ladies and taking them for a ride.

Betty is survived by her five sons and their wives; Don and Diane Reed of Harcourt, Joe and Claudia Reed of Carroll, Bert and Rose Reed of Badger, Jim and Kay Reed of Grand Junction, CO, and Paul and Lou Reed of Jonesboro, AR; a stepson, Gary and Norma Louk of Yale, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild and many nieces and nephews.

Those who preceded her in death were her parents, husbands, a brother Herbert Buckmaster, a sister Joycelyn Reed, a grandson, Justin Reed, a stepson Max Reed and three stepchildren, Joann Hughes, Dennis Louk and Sandy Ackerman.

A memorial service was held Friday, August 14, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. at the Churdan United Methodist Church with Rev. David Arulnathan officiating with reading by Don Cole. Music was played by organist, Janice Tilley.

Burial was made in the Cedar Township Cemetery near Rinard.
