Obituary for Thomas Payne Garwood:

MR. GARWOOD DIES AT 84, The Newton Press, June 1965:
Thomas P. Garwood, 84, of 327 North Walnut, Newton, died at 4:30 pm June 11, 1965, at his home. He had been ill three weeks.
Funeral mass was held at 9:30 am today at St. Thomas Catholic church with Rev. F. Maurice Gavin officiating. Burial was in Mt. Calvary cemetery with Flagg funeral home in charge. The rosary was said at 8 pm Sunday at the funeral home.
Mr. Garwood was born July 19, 1880, in Jasper county, a son of Charles and Sara Elizabeth (Strole) Garwood. He was first married to Mary Dorothy Boehl and she died in 1957. On July 19, 1958, he married Bertha Hunt, and she survives.
Mr. Garwood was a retired farmer. He also formerly worked for the Clark Memorial shop.
Surviving are his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Margaret Meinhart of Island Grove, Mrs. Clara Berger of Amityville, Long Island, NY; sisters, Mrs. Clara Cutts of Metropolis and Mrs. Nora Adkins of Newton; 17 grandchildren and 90 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
One brother Samuel, a daughter, Mrs. Edith Michels, and a son Delbert preceded him in death.
Mr. Garwood was a member of St. Thomas Catholic church.
