Lucile Hemphill Gibbs

Lucile Hemphill Gibbs, age 96, of Marion, died Sunday, May 14, 2006 at Autumn Care of Marion. A native of McDowell County, she was born May 25, 1909 and was a daughter of the late Charles M. Hemphill and Emma Hallyburton Hemphill.

Mrs. Gibbs was a member of Nebo United Methodist Church.

She was a retired teacher from McDowell County Schools, having taught in both Marion City Schools and McDowell County Schools. She was a member of the N. C. Retired Teacher's Association.

After retiring she enjoyed years of travel.

Her husband John Bradley Gibbs preceded her in death.

Surviving Mrs. Gibbs are three children: James B. Gibbs and wife Martha of Hartsville, OH, Charles W. Gibbs and wife Patricia of Old Fort and Rebecca Gibbs Millman and husband Kenneth of Lincoln, DE; one sister-in-law, Sue Craig Gibbs of Nebo; nine grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 20, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. in Westmoreland Chapel with Rev. Nancy Krall officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m., at the funeral home.

Interment will be in McDowell Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Nebo United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, 117 School House Road, Nebo, N. C. 28761.
