Edward Holmes Dies at Beloit; Funeral Sunday

Beloit, Wis., Aug. 6. - Edward J. Holmes, a prominent Mason and a resident of this city for the last 21 years, died at the Municipal hospital at 2:30 p.m. Thursday. He had been a patient at the hospital for 11 weeks and had been in ill health for more than a year. He was 66 year old.

Mr. Holmes was born Sept. 13, 1870, at Lawler, Ia., He entered the employ of the American Express company at Canton, Miss., in 1893. The company's name was changed to the Railway Express agency, and Mr. Holmes came to Beloit in May, 1916, as agent for the company, which position he had since held. He was married to Miss Alice L. Storey of Hastings, Neb., at that city on Jan. 22, 1896. During his residence in Beloit, Mr. Holmes had been a leader in the Masonic orders of this city. He belonged to the Blue lodge, the chapter, the Knights Templar and the Madison Consistory.

Surviving are his widow, and a brother, Fred T. Holmes of St. Paul, Minn.

Funeral services will be conducted by the Masons at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Rosman-Uehling-Kinzer chapel. Burial will be in Eastlawn cemetery. (Register-Republic [Rockford, Illinois] Friday, August 6, 1937, Page 16.) (Accessed and transcribed 5 March 2017 by Mary Jo.)
