William enlisted in the CSA in Mobile, AL in 1862. Served in Company 1, 42nd Regiment, Alabama Moore's Brigade. He was wounded and captured in the battle of Iuka (Corinth, MS) and was paroled on October 4, 1862.

Salem Baptist Church was located in Lauderdale County, Alamucha, MS. The following is an abstract from the church minutes in May 1863. Moderator Brother H. Yarbrough received by letter Elder R. Y. Rasberry and his wife Martha M. Rasberry, Sister F. E. Rasberry, Sister M. J. Rasberry and Brother W. C. Rasberry.
