Only child of Martin L. & Delilah Nance Anderson. He grew up in Wilkes County. His education was grades 1-5. The 1880 Census shows him living with his aunt & uncle, Malinda & Thomas Bell, in Lovelace Township, Wilkes County, NC. He could not read or write. He married Marria Childers on 18 Oct 1884 in Sharpesburg Township, Iredell County, NC. In 1900, it lists him living in Lovelace Township, Wilkes County, NC with his wife & 5 children. He had learned to read & write by then & his occupation was corn whiskey manufacturing. 10 years later, he is living in Coddle Creek Township, Iredell County, NC with wife & 5 children. Occupation is general farmer. In 1911, him & his family moved to Bear Poplar into a 2-story house on Hwy 801 near the intersection of 801, Graham & Hall roads. The 1920, '30, & '40 Censuses show him living in Steele Township, Rowan County, NC (1920 with wife & 3 children; 1930 & '40 only with wife). Occupation in all Censuses is general farmer. He died in 1942; aged 80.

W. E. Anderson Dies at Landis

William Edward Anderson, 80, a retired farmer of the Bear Poplar section, died at Landis at midnight last night.

Funeral services will be held at St. Luke's Lutheran church at 4 p.m. Tuesday, with Rev. E. K. Body, the pastor, in charge. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Surviving are: the widow, the former Miss Dinia Childers; three daughters, Mrs. C. W. London of Bear Poplar, Mrs. Florida Bolick of Bear Poplar, and Mrs. C. M. Johnson of Statesville; two sons, H. N. Anderson of Bear Poplar, and S. H. Anderson of Kannapolis; and a half-sister, Mrs. Victoria Giles of Crete, Colo.
