SERVICES WERE HELD SUNDAY FOR COSBY NEWBERRY

Funeral services for Selma Cosby Newberry, retired farmer of the New Hope Community near Gleason were conducted Sunday afternoon from the New Hope Cumberland Presbyterian Church with Rev. O. A. Gardner, and Rev. C. V. Stacks officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Selma Cosby Newberry was born April 7, 1871 and departed this life January 8, 1959. He was 87 years old. He was the son of the late Rev. William Curtis and Jane Paralee Newberry and was the last member of a family of nine children. He was married to Miss Claudia Tomlinson June 30, 1895. They walked together down the pathway of life for 63 1/2 years. Two children, a son, Willie, and a daughter, Edna, came to bless this home. 'Uncle Cos' was magistrate for a number of years, and a prominent member of the County Court. He was a man of strong convictions and firmly stood for what he thought was right. He was born and lived out his life in the same community.
He had been in bad health over a year but was confined to his room only about two weeks. He was of a jovial disposition and was very happy to meet with friends and talk and laugh together with them.
Survivors include his wife and two children, W. L. Newberry of New Hope and Mrs. Fonville Nowlin of Los Angeles, California, five grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends. Pall bearers were Fred Newberry, George Newberry, J. D. Taylor, Sage Brooks, Henry Brogdon, and Walter Cravens. Milligan and Ridgeway Funeral Directors of Paris were in charge.
