COOPER
Samuel Orlando Cooper, the son of Jackson and Jane Cooper, was born in Ingham, Mich., Jan. 20th, 1845, and died at his home in Oquawka, Oct. 29, 1898, after a very brief illness. He was down town Wednesday and the following Saturay he died.
He came with his parents to Kirkwood, Ill., in 1861. Although quite young at the outbreak of the war, he responded to the call of his country and enlisted, as did also his father, in Co. H, Ill. cavalry, Sept.22, 1861. As solder he served his country faithfully and was honorably discharged on account of an injury. He returned to Kirkwood at the close of the war and has since lived in the vicinity of Kirkwood and Oquawka.
He was married Oct. 15, 1870, to Miss Emma Sargent of Kirkwood who remains to mourn his departure. Two brothers and one sister are living in Nebraska; his sister Emma died one year ago at her home in Indiana. The bereaved companion and relatives have the sympathy of all in this trying hour. Services were conducted at the home Tuesday forenoon by Rev. E. C. Anderson, at the close of which he was taken to the Kirkwood cemetery to be laid to rest. The G.A.R. attended the service in a body.
