Donald J. Black, 79, of Kittanning, passed away Friday, Aug. 14, 2015, at Armstrong County Memorial Hospital.

He was born Jan. 15, 1936, in Kittanning, son of the late Harry and Laura Ethel (Champion) Black.

He was a lifelong resident of Furnace Run and a member of the Furnace Run Chapel. Don worked for Freeport Brick in their clay mines before going to R and P/Consol Coal Mines, from where he retired on Dec. 1, 1995, after 26 years of service.

He very proudly served his country in the Marine Corps from Aug. 3, 1953, to Sept. 1, 1955, at Paris Island in Quantico, Va., where he received the National Defense Service Medal and earned the rank of Sergeant E 4.

Don was an avid hunter and loved camping and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his loving wife of 60 years, Pearline, who he married March 12, 1955; son, Donald Black (fiance Nancy); son, Jeff Black (wife Kim); son, Rick Black (wife Sharon); daughter, Jamie Toy (husband Ray); son, Lance Black (wife Ondrea); daughter-in-law, Wanda Black; 19 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; brother, James Black, (wife Dee); and sisters, Joan Grafton, Donna Barnett (husband Jim), Rose Davis (husband Ralph).

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Betty Toy and Sondra Bowser; and brothers, Arnold Black, and Richard Black.

He will be sadly missed by his wife, children, family, and friends.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday and from 10 a.m. until the time of services at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the SNYDER-CRISSMAN FUNERAL HOME in Kittanning, with Pastor Jimmy Edwards officiating.

Interment will be in Lawn Haven Burial Estates.

Memorial contributions may be made to Furnace Run Chapel, 154 Montgomery Road, Kittanning, PA 16201.
