Jesse James YORK is the ninth of ten children born to Joseph YORK and his first wife Martha SPINKS. Jesse James YORK stayed in North Carolina while most of his brothers and sisters migrated into Georgia, Alabama and Tennessee when their father left Randolph County before the end of the Revolutionary War. Jesse James YORK elected as a teenager to remain in Randolph County, North Carolina perhaps due to a love affair. It is most unusual that he remained behind in North Carolina when his parents left for Georgia and did not marry until he was over thirty.

Jesse James YORK age thirty one married on 1796 in Asheboro, Randolph County to Lucy Ann BURROW age twenty seven.

The eight children of Jesse James YORK and Lucy Ann BURROW are:

1. Braxton YORK, b. 1798 NC; d. 1855 NC
2. Nancy YORK, b. 1799 NC; d. 1861 NC
3. Pleasant YORK, b.May 1804 NC; d. 1858 NC
4. Lucille "Lucy" YORK, b.1807 NC; d. 1884 TN
5. Branson YORK, b. 1810 NC, d. 1854 NC
6. Solomon YORK, b. 1813 NC; d. 1857 NC
7. Mayberry "Maybrey" YORK, b. 1815 NC; d. 1862 NC
8. Ruth YORK, b. 1816 NC; d. 1848 NC

This Jesse James YORK family and their descendants are the only branch of Joseph YORK to be found in Randolph County. Perhaps Jesse James YORK was interred in the historic Asheboro City Cemetery. This proposed scenario is based on the active involvement of his daughter Nancy York who married George Hoover. Nancy was a hotel inn keeper in Asheboro for many years. It is reasonable to conclude this was a family that lived in the city of Asheboro and was not located in a remote rural section of Randolph County as farmers.
