He was a son of Archibald "Cuffy" and Mary (Pledger) Burden.
He married Elizabeth C. Jordan on January 9, 1842 in Elbert County, Georgia. Their known children were: Mary Ann, James Archibald, Thomas J., Johnson Berry, Laura J. and Woodson Llewellyn Burden.

Also remembered in the Liberty Congregational Church Cemetery.
