Mrs. Janet Cowan Scott was born at Seaforth, Ontario, Feb 12, 1865, the youngest daughter of Mr.and Mrs. Walter Cowan. Most of her life was spent in Dale Township, O'Brien County, Iowa, where the family took in their residence in 1881. She was graduated from the Iowa State Normal School in 1888, after which she taught school for several years.

On December 31, 1896 she married William F. Scott, going with him to the farm north of Paullina, where they lived until March, 1920, and where their four sons were born and many happy associations formed.

Their plans to make their future hom ein Paullina were suddenly ended by the accidental death of Mr. Scott, August 13, 1926. Mrs. Scott then moved to Des Moines to make her home with her sons, Andrew and Walter. Again her hopes were shattered when it was discovered that she was the victime of the disease that caused her death on January 26th.

Besides her four sons, she is survived by four brothers and one sister: Hector, Robert, Andrew, Walter and Miss Isabel Cowan, all of Windom, Minn. The sons are Alexander Scott of Storm Lake; Andrew and Walter Scott of Des Moines; and John Scott of Paullina.

Mrs. Scott's life was one of unusual richness, having within her heart the resource of great happiness which she shared in a very large measure with her family, relatives and friends, being always devoted and loyal to all.

She was a member of the local Presbyterian church, and in the faith of her fathers was able to meet her severe affliction without a murmer.

Funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church on Sunday afternoon in charge of Rev. H.P. Morgan, with the church choir singing several selections. Interment was in the Prairie View Cemetery.
