Dr. Charles Herbert Angle Jr. , longtime resident of Miami, Oklahoma, passed away Sunday, August 2, 2015 in Tulsa, Oklahoma after a brief illness.

He was born June 14, 1932 to Emma Rose Angle and Charles H. Angle, Sr. in Midwest, Wyoming.

Charles married his high school sweetheart JoAnn Stubblefield on June 24, 1951. She preceded him in death on May 14, 2015.

He was preceded in death by his siblings, John Angle, Marguerite Angle Canada, and Mary Angle Brafford.

Surviving him are son and daughter in law, Larry and Cindy Angle, son and daughter in law, Herb and Alana Angle; three grandchildren Tim Angle and his partner Ross Tidwell, Elizabeth and her husband Gregory Stafford Sr., and Brittney Angle;
five great-grandchildren, Madisyn Bryant, Brooklyn Bryant, Natalie Stafford, Sydney Bryant and Gregory Stafford Jr., sister in law Shirley Robinson and her husband Bill; as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.

At the age of 7, his family moved to Miami from Bernice when Grand Lake was formed. The choice to move to Miami was made by his Grandfather Rose, who had a third grade education, but always loved learning and wished to instill that love for learning in his grandson. The college, Northeastern Oklahoma A&M, would play a significant role in his life educationally, professionally and personally.

After receiving his Associates Degree from NEO and Bachelors Degree from Pittsburgh State College he began his career in education as a Social Science teacher at Cherokee County Community High School in Columbus, Kansas. While teaching at Columbus he earned his Masters Degree from Pittsburgh State.

In 1957 Charles began a 35 year career with NEO College, as a teacher, Dean of Students, Vice President of Academic Affairs and Interim President. During this time he earned a Doctorate of Philosophy in Political Science from The University of Kansas. When reflecting upon his career he wrote, “I saw my relationship with students, faculty, and staff as that of a ‘pastor’ to them. How did I do? As a professor told me once, to really evaluate a teacher you would have to wait until their students live their lives and see how they have done. Then and only then could you have judged them.”

Family was something he loved and took pride in. Whether it was camping trips, water skiing, or attending many events of his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Once a Norseman, Always a Norseman.

Services will be 2:00 PM Wednesday, August 5, 2015 at First Christian Church Miami with Minister Brian Brubaker officiating. Interment will follow at the Ottawa Indian Cemetery under the care of Brown-Winters Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Miami.
