Note: Phila’s obituary, which I have transcribed below, states that she was born in Postville. Postville, Iowa lies in two counties, Allamakee and Clayton. I believe that Phila was probably born in Clayton County, as she was shown at the age of one, living in Grand Meadow, Clayton County, Iowa, with her parents in the 1900 Census. However, I am not certain of this, and Postville is only in the findagrave drop-down menu for Allamakee County, so I am just showing her place of birth as Iowa.

Former Ottumwan Phila Martin, 80, died at 4:05 p.m. May 24 at Golden Age Manor in Centerville.

She was born June 12, 1898, in Postville to Marion and Abbie Mather Rounds. She married William E. Martin on June 13, 1917, in Hurton, S.D. He died in 1964.

Survivors: sons William of Mason City and Jack of Unionville; daughters Margaret Dayton of Richardson, Texas, and Ruth Broich of Aurora, Ill.; and 34 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.

Services: 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Jay Funeral Home, the Rev. Charles Rinkel of First United Methodist Church officiating. Burial: Shaul Cemetery.
