William Henry Black, 74, a farmer in Owen township for more than 55 years, died yesterday afternoon at his home south of Rockton after an illness of a year with bronchial trouble. He was born in Ireland, Aug 22, 1848, and came to New York state with his parents in 1852. The family came to Winnebago county in 1867, settling on the farm which has been the home of Mr. Black ever since. He was married to Miss Amelia Gebhard, Feb. 15, 1864. She died Nov. 4, 1892. Later he was married to Miss Anna Nelson, Feb. 17, 1908. His second wife survives him, also seven children, Mrs. Ida Griswold, Calmar, S.D.; William W. Black, near Rockford, Mrs. Mabel Wright, Milbank, S.D., Mrs. Kate Maxwell and Mrs. Louisa Collins, Alta, Canada, Mrs. Ella Brown, San Francisco, and Philip Black, Roscoe, Ill. He is also survived by three sisters and three brothers, Mrs. Eliza Campbell, Owen township, Miss Charlotte Black and Mrs. Louisa Poole of Guilford township, George of Rockford and James and Samuel of the state of Kansas. He was a member of the Modern Woodman of America, and was well known in Winnebago county. Funeral services have not been arranged.
