Mrs. Ada Smith
Mrs. Ada J. Sherman Smith, 76, of 446 S. Ward St., died at 2:10 p.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Hospital, following an illness of several months.
The daughter of John J. and Sarah Conger Chance, she was born in Wapello County Oct. 18, 1890. She lived in this county all her life. She was a member of Davis Street Christian Church and a charger member of the church Dorcas Circle. She was married to Coy C. Sherman Dec. 23, 1909 in Wapello County. He preceded her in death Sept. 29, 1948. On Dec. 7, 1952 she married Lloyd Smith, in Ottumwa. He survives.
Also surviving are one son, Robert B. Sherman of St. Petersburg, Fla.; one daughter, Mrs. Betty King of Blakesburg Route 1; five grandchildren; and one brother, Jay E. Chance of Ottumwa.
She was also preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Johnson Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Cecil Simonton of Davis Street Christian Church officiating. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be David, Phillip, Stephen, and Gary King, Bill Bloss, and Joseph Overturf.
