Born in Ripley, Ohio, M. Ardell Eddy was the only child of Ira G. Eddy and Lucy C. Hustin. At the age of six, Ardell and her parents relocated to Michigan and settled in Elsie, where her father worked as a carpenter. On June 28, 1879, Ardell married Ira A. Finch, eldest child of Maria W. Provost and Seeley Finch. In the 1880 census of Elsie, the young couple was found living with Ardell's parents. Ira was employed at that time as a druggist.

The Finch-Eddy marriage was blessed with two sons, Glen Eddy and Seeley Ira. Son Glen was with Ira when the father took ill and died at Kimberly, British Columbia on March 21, 1902. Ira, his brother Charles and son Seeley had been working in the family's lumber business at that location.

Mrs. Finch was a charter member of the Order of Eastern Star and considered a thoughtful and helpful friend to those who were ill or distressed. She was survived by her two sons, daughters-in-law, Lulu and Bertha, and two grandsons, Donald and Ira.
