Burial will be at the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Lowell Tims Funeral Home.
Mrs. King passed away on Sunday, July 26, 2015 at her home in Altus.
Imogene King was born to Albert and Lettie (Bartlett) Blankenship in Ozark, Oklahoma on August 28, 1928. She was a lifelong resident of Jackson County and attended school at the Ozark School until the fifth grade and graduated from Friendship High School in 1946. She married Andrew E. King in Mangum, Oklahoma on November 10, 1945 and he passed away on October 2, 2001. Imogene was a exceptionally skilled seamstress, she spent several years as a supervisor at the Kellwood plant, a former clothing factory in Altus. She was a licensed Beautician and also owned her own shop. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Altus and a long time active member of Friendship Baptist Church serving as a teacher and youth leader. She and her husband sang as a couple for many years at church, funerals and weddings until his death, Music was a big part of her family. She was a devoted homemaker and an avid gardener, she took great pride in her flowers and her beautiful yard. Imogene was a creative person, fearless of attempting almost any project. She was a dedicated Oklahoma City Thunder fan and enjoyed visiting with her friends and spending time with her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, four brothers, Monroe, Hubert, Johnny and A.Q. Blankenship and a sister, Evelyn Ewing.
Survivors include a son, Jim King and wife Helen of Altus; a daughter, Rita and husband Gordon Smalts of Altus; four grandchildren, Perry Smalts of Mustang, OK, Jeana and husband Mike Conn of Duncan, Shellie and husband Curtis Thornton of Duncan and Shawn Whorton of New Orleans, LA; seven great grandchildren, Andrew Smalts, Raylee Conn, Jackson Conn, Jacob Conn, Collin Thornton, Garrett Thornton and Hunter Whorton and many other relatives and friends.
