Born August 18, 1899 in Batesville, Independence County, Arkansas to Alonzo Jeffery and Ella Bickers. As a telephone operator, she accidently "misconnected" someone to their party. In my grandfather's own handwritten words, "the operator was very nice and apologetic for her error. I was very fortunate for this error for in three weeks she bacame my wife".
Esther and Parrot Hollis were married in Jefferson City, Mo on July 1, 1924. They lived in Memphis, and had eight children. Esther also raised his sons from a previous marriage for a time.
Esther died in Memphis on January 11, 1941, at the very young age of 41. While I have many warm memories of my grandfather Parrott ("Pat"), I never had the opportunity to know this woman. My mother, Esther's daughter, died last Novemeber. She always longed for her own mother, who died when she was only 11 years old. I take comfort in knowing they are now reunited.
While we morn the loss of our parents, they are being reunited in your welcoming arms dear Esther.
