March 28, 1907 - Newell Mirror - Lura Hutchins McBride passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Viola Harris, March 21, 1907, after an illness of several months, aged 80 years, 11 months and 5 days.
She was born May 16, 1826, in North Island, Vermont, where she spent the early part of her life. She was married to Richard McBride in March, 1851. To this union seven children were born five of whom are still living: Douglas, of Plankington, S.D., Warren, of Worthington, Minn, Mrs. Mary King, of Fonda, Mrs. Viola Harris, of Newell, and Orris, of Truesdale, all of whom were present at the funeral.
Her husband died Feb. 27, 1894.
She is survived by one brother, one sister, five sons and daughters, twenty-six grandchildren and thirteen great grand children. Mrs. McBride was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church for about fifty years, and died in the Christian faith. In a recent talk with her pastor she expressed great satisfaction and peace in the gospel of Jesus.
During her last days she experienced a gradual and painless decline in strength and passed peacefully away on Thursday morning of last week. Rev. Ernest C. Richards preached the funeral sermon from John 1:12. A large company of friends was present at the funeral which was held Friday at 11:00 a.m. The remains were taken to Storm Lake for interment.
