Jane was an orphan taken in by John Phillips of Butler Co., OH and his wife. In his Revolutionary War pension application dated Aug. 9, 1822 he writes, "My family consists of myself and wife who is not able to contribute to her support and an orphan boy and girl. The boy's name is Isaac Young about twelve years of age and not able to support himself. The girl whose name is Jane McCotter is about thirteen years of age and not able to support herself."
