OTTUMWA — Charles Rex Ford, 90, formerly of 534 S. Webster St., died at 10:45 p.m. October 19, 2013, at his daughter’s home. He was born July 6, 1923, in Moravia to Harry Howard and Goldie Phyllis Knapp Ford. He married Marian L. Fuqua on January 20, 1945. She preceded him in death February 10, 1984. Rex lived most of his life in Ottumwa and served in the Navy Seabees during World War II. He sang with the Wapello Chiefs Barbershop Chorus and was a lifetime volunteer at Douma School. He was a member of Davis St. Christian Church. Surviving are four daughters, Phyllis Hull, Becky Hull and Sherry Dekraai, all of Ottumwa, and Marianne Williams of Bloomfield; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren; a nephew, Arlie Schiermeier of New Jersey. He was preceded in death by a son, Michael Ford; and an infant daughter, Jo Ellen; a brother, Roy H. Ford; five sisters, infant twins, Arlene and Darlene Ford, infant Mary Jean Ford, Viola Rominger and Sally Shiermeier. His body has been cremated. Private graveside services will be at Shaul Cemetery with Rev. James H. Wakelin officiating. Military services will be conducted by Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars and O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Hospice serving Davis and Wapello Counties, 927 E. Pennsylvania Ave., Ottumwa Iowa 52501 or the family. Reece Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
