Published September 28, 2010, 07:18 AM --- Marie Middlestead, 97, Jamestown, died Sunday, Sept. 26, 2010, at Eventide at Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Center, Jamestown. Marie Magdalena Presler was born Nov. 4, 1912, on the farm near Gackle, N.D., the daughter of John and Othilda (Domdie) Presler.

Marie Middlestead, 97, Jamestown, died Sunday, Sept. 26, 2010, at Eventide at Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Center, Jamestown.

Marie Magdalena Presler was born Nov. 4, 1912, on the farm near Gackle, N.D., the daughter of John and Othilda (Domdie) Presler. She attended a farm school south of Gackle through grade school and worked on the family farm. She married Benjamin Middlestead on Nov. 9, 1929, in Aberdeen, S.D. They farmed in the Kulm, Jud, and LaMoure, all N.D., areas until 1962. She worked for Cooks Bakery, LaMoure. They traveled to Washington and Oregon, and then moved to Jamestown in 1963. He died in 1963. She worked at Baker Boy Bakery, Jamestown, and cared for the bakery owner’s son until 1974. She later moved to the Sheyenne Care Center, Valley City, N.D., Rock of Ages, Jamestown, and then to Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Center.

She is survived by a son, Elmer, New Salem, N.D.; two daughters, Olga Escobedo, Lynnhaven, Fla., and ElDora (Elmer) Klose, Jamestown; six sisters, Alice Gumke, Washington, Rose Schweitzer, Jamestown, Alvina Heidinger, Edgeley, N.D., Cora Moos, Gackle, Delores Moser, Fargo, N.D. and Gertrude Kassman, Nyssa, Ore.; three brothers, Richard (Alvina) Presler, Oakes, N.D., LeRoy (Magdelina) Presler and Walter (Adeline) Presler, both Gackle; a sister-in-law, Ileene (Nels) Albin, Jamestown; 18 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and 16 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Larry; her parents; a son-in-law, Greg Escobedo; two brothers; six sisters; seven brothers-in-law; a granddaughter, Connie Martenson; a grandson, LaVern Middlestead; and a great-grandson, Randy Klose, Jr..

Services: 2 p.m. Friday, St. John’s Lutheran Church, Jamestown, with the Rev. Suzanne Orlopp officiating.

Prayer service: 7 p.m. Thursday, Eddy Funeral Chapel, Jamestown.

Visitation: 1 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown.

Burial: Highland Home Cemetery, Jamestown.
