Vigil services were held at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 11, 2006 at Flahiff Funeral Chapel, Caldwell. Mass of Christian Burial was held at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday at St. Paul's Catholic Church, Nampa. Interment followed at Kohlerlawn Cemetery.
Esther M. Coates, 81, of Nampa, Idaho, passed away July 9, 2006 at Nampa, Idaho to be with her Savior. She was born July 29, l924, at Los Angeles, Calif. to Alfredo and Jovita Sandoval. She grew up and attended schools in Union City, Calif. On May 2l, l947, she married Robert A. Coates of Carey, Idaho. They lived in California for 5 years before moving to Carey - Bobs hometown. Though she knew it meant moving far away from her close- knit family. It was a real adjustment for a city girl to learn what life was like on an isolated sheep ranch and with the help of her mother-in-law, Esther learned how to make homemade bread and to cook for a lambing crew. They also lived in Missoula, Mont., Idaho Falls and Arco, Idaho before retiring in Nampa. Esther worked for many years in the business community as a legal and executive secretary. She also worked as a Spanish interpreter for the Courts while living in Arco. She was also the secretary of the Butte County Republican part for many years. Her dream was to become a court reporter. She retired from Government Service in l986. She was a member of St. Pauls Catholic Church, an auxiliary of the Legion of Mary, and the Catholic Daughters of the Americas. She was also an active member of the Mercy Medical Center Auxiliary. She enjoyed performing volunteer work as a Spanish Interpreter and helping others with the translation of Spanish documents. Esther was a friendly person and knew no strangers. She enjoyed spectator sports as well as listening to music and dancing with her husband. One of her greatest enjoyments was to have family and friends come to her home. Survivors include her husband of Nampa, one son Lt. Col. (Retired) Robert A. Coates of Oceanside, Calif.; one daughter, Anne Michelle Coates and fiancee Jeff Goade of Boise, four granddaughters, Stephanie Coates, Oceanside, Calif., Amy Lynn Pehrson and fiancee Bo MacDowell of Parma, Idaho, Brooke Anne and Nicole Mae Pehrson of Boise. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and three brothers. Vigil Services will be held on Tuesday, July 11, at 7 p.m. in the Flahiff Funeral Chapel 624 Cleveland Blvd Caldwell ID. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, July 12 at St. Pauls Church in Nampa, located at l5l5 8th Street with the Rev. Gerald J. Funke. She will then be laid to rest in the Kohlerlawn Cemetery, Nampa. Memorials in Esthers name may be made to St. Pauls School or your favorite charity.
